St. Theresa Cemetery

St. Theresa, another Wichita County cemetery, is located in the west side of the southwest quarter of section 15-17-38

The first Catholic Church was built there in 1887, and the first person to be buried was John H. Gotken, who was born in 1840 and died in 1887. Life and death was experienced the same year – 1887 – by a child, Clement A. Gotken. The most recent burial is that of John Bauck, born in 1880, who died in 1975. There are forty graves in the cemetery.

The community was named for Mrs. Theresa Scheve, one of the early day settlers. For a long time this was a close-knit community or neighborhood. Today the only families descending from the original settlers are the Bauck families.
